close the parent window on button click

On my button click i am opening a new window .. i tried this.. Response.Write(" window.close() "); but didnt seem to recognise it.. i want to close the parent window when the new window has opened...

Try sending that javascript. It should breakout of the frame move to the page you want.

yeah, i want to eliminate the frames on the page transfer. i cant replace the button with a A href because i have some sql queries running when the user clicks that button.

So, the goal is to eliminate the frames on the page transfer and replace the full browser window with the new page? Does the redirection have to be on the server side? That is, can you make the button an anchor ( ) and set it the target to "_top". That will open the page in the full browser space eliminating the frames (or replacing them with whatever is at the new page). You might also try sending the javascript something like: top.topFrame.location='mynewpage.html' or top.location='mynewpage.html'

i have 2 frames , frame1 and frame 2...so on the click of button in frame2 i want the user to go to a different page.. so inorder to do that i put this code in the button click event of the page. private void Button1_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { string address = "NewPage.aspx"; Response.Write(" window.open('" + address + "') ") ; } this opens up a new window for me. what i want is to close the parent window that opened the new one. i tried using Response.Write(" window.close() "); in the button click event of the parent window, but it didnt seem to recognise it.. is there another way that i can redirect the frame to the new page without having to open a new window or how to close the parent window if i am opening a new window......

Could you clearify a few things? How and where do you open the new window? If you are going to close the old window, why open a new one? You mention that you have tried the javascript window.close(), which window is receiving that script, is the Response.Write in the new window you open?
