Return type is ArrayList . The difference between Array and ArrayList is that, Arrays are collection of items which are of same type, with a fixed size, where are ArrayList is collection of items that's can actually increase or decrease its size dynamically. So In this case, Array's just returns the type of items that's in the collection, where incase of ArrayList, the return type is ArrayList , As your collection could be of any type. using System; using System.Collections; class Program { static void Main() { // // Create an ArrayList with 4 strings. // ArrayList list = new ArrayList(); list.Add("fish"); list.Add("amphibian"); list.Add("bird"); list.Add("plant"); // // Get last two elements in ArrayList. // ArrayList range = list. GetRange (2, 2); // // Display the elements. // foreach (string value in range) { Console.WriteLine(value); // bird, plant } } } In this case my output will be bird,plant.
