control a windows service from a web appliction/web page

To control a windows service we need the following 1. Appropriate access rights 2. A library that exposes functionality to handle the services. I assume that the first one is somthing which you have, for the second item you can use the following Namespace, System.ServiceProcess Class, ServiceController You can use the static method ServiceController.GetServices() which will return an arraylist of service controller objects, you then can iterate thru' the array to get to the service you are interested. then you could use the methods ServiceController.Start ServiceController.Stop ServiceController.Pause etc to conrol the service. Alternatively you can use the constructor of the service controller class which takes in the machine name and the service name to get the servicecontroller object. Caveat: When using ASP.NET ensure that u are using windows authentication or else u will need to give access to IUSER_MACHINENAME to control the service. hope this helps

Somehow you could execute 'net [start|stop] yourservice'. ASP.NET needs administrator privilegs then I think. Was it Process class which allowed running external programs?
