Create email in vb.net

Can anyone provide the vb.net code to create and send email through an SMTP server that requires authentication? Email via Outlook works fine but sending email from a vb.net program fails due to no authentication. Thank you.

I am using a linkbutton and the text of the linkbutton is the email address. I wrote the code to send the email in the click event of the linkbutton. But when I click the button, it opens a new browser window with "javascript:__doPostBack('lnkCustomerEmail','')" in the address bar. Could you please tell me how to prevent this ?
