Creation of folder and uploading files in folder

Dharam Rai

Dear all genius please help me with this, my requirement is I want to let user create directory (folder) and upload files on it as well as same files goes inside the database too so that user can search the file with the key tag. Now the problem is, suppose a user created a folder and uploaded file on it, now when the user right click on folder it should show the option of creating sub folder again inside the folder, creation of folder infinite in sub folders and so on the file could be uploaded like wise in each folder. Please if any one could help me with this. I am creating document management system. Any help would save my life. Thanks a trillion in advance.

A slight change in your thinking and you will get it. I already demonstrated this to you in my another post.
FolderId FolderName ParentFolderId
1 Maharashtra Null -- This is a top folder.
2Mumbai1
3Juhu2
4 Bunglow1 3
5 Bunglow2 3
6 Bunglow3 3
Please pay close attention to FolderId and ParentFolderId values. What data goes in FolderName, we don't care. Just like Windows Operating system doesn't care about the folder name, except few characters are not allowed.
Remember no physical folder is created here. It is all virtual. We will show folder icon to a tree view, but folder names are read from this table. When user right clicks on any folder and choose "create folder" you will send that selected folder's id as a parent folder id.
Hope you get it.

Unfortunately, I am not much of front-end material (except Windows Forms, probably), so you will need google a bit. There are several jQuery plug-ins available which will do the job.
In addition, you may also wish to have a look at https://www.jstree.com/
Believe me, there is loads and loads to learn from IT world out there.
Meanwhile, please accept one of the answers, if it satisfies your original question.
You may please post more questions as you stumble upon them.

@Nitin okay Genius I got you, so now my problem is when I click the folder in tree view which are the list of category then I can send the ParentId via query string so to create another folder, now how do I implement the same when I right click it. I mean when I right click it should show option like create folder etc.. how do I do that?

@Nitin Sorry, but my earlier question is fully valid. I am so confused with this stuff so trying hell things. Okay so ingeneric tables is it possible to create sub folder or category and sub sub folder and so on, if it is then where will data be saved if there will be no table? My question is okay what ifsuppose I have a Folder (category name ) called Maharahstra - now I want to have a another folder or sub category called Mumbai inside Maharashtra and another folder (sub sub categroy) called Juhu, and what if the user want to create sub sub sub folder inside juhu, for example now 4 banglow inside juhu, Where else I don't have any table for juhu and 4 banglow, then where will data be saved?

Hello,
Please refer to the original question you have asked. I have given answer in line with that question.
In original question, there is no mention of Country / State / City or Location at all. You are mentioning it now.
The solution I am suggesting is for ANY hierarchical data. What you are showing is just ONE type of hierarchical data. However what goes in it is a fixed type of data. Country table can have only countries, it cannot have Cars for example.
So, before we continue, it is important to understand if your original question is still valid. If answer is "Yes", there will NOT be any domain specific tables. The tables you have shown are called domain specific tables. What I am suggesting are generic tables.

Something as follows, if it helps. You can have
FolderId FolderName ParentFolderId
1 Maharashtra Null -- This is a top folder.
2Mumbai1
3Juhu2
All top folders will have ParentFolderId as NULL. Hope you remember classical Employee table where ManagerId is again another EmployeeId from same table. It is exactly like that.
If you use CTE (common table expression, google for more) to make recursive queries, you can get an hierarchical view of the above.
You can also have yet another table, tblFolderUserPermission for storing what permissions (Delete, Read, Write, etc.) which user has on which folder. If every folder belongs to exactly one user, you can have user Id column in above table itself.
Hope it is clear, if not, please do let me know.

Hi @Nitin thanks for such a quick and valuable reply. Okay I understood tblFolder will have an ID field (PK) and tblFile will be linked to tblFolder via ID in tblFile as (FK), but what you mean by"The tblFolder will have ParentFolderId from same table". And okay suppose I have a Folder (category name ) called Maharahstra - now I want to have a another folder or sub category called Mumbai inside Maharashtra and another folder (sub sub categroy) called Juhu. So how do I achieve this as a user? Waiting impatiently to hear from you again. Big thanks to you.

In the similar solution created in past, we had decided not to create folders at all. That's right. It is web based solution. User doesn't know if you created folders or not. All we did just created database tables named tblFolder and tblFile.
The tblFile will have FolderId from tblFolder. The tblFolder will have ParentFolderId from same table. This helps create folder hierarchy with ease.
You can think of this alternate approach as well.
