Details View and Dropdown list-Not passing data

My dropdown list in the detials view does not pass any value. I changed it to a text box and it passes the entered the value. Should I make any change when I convert a field in the details view to template and insert the data using a dropdown list? At present no value is passed and I am getting an error.
