diffrence between * and select coumn name in sqlserver

hi all,

Please Tell me diffrence between

select * from FT_MOVEMENT_DETAIL

and

select FICN_ACCUSED_DETAIL,FICN_ACT_SECTION,FICN_DETAIL from FT_MOVEMENT_DETAIL

which query execute fast and why ?

1 . SELECT * FROM tblName :

which will returns the all the list of column present in your table

2.SELECT Col1,Col2,Col3:

Which will returns only specific column which you mentioned in your select list

EX . tblLogin

UserName	Password
1000	1000

1. SELECT * FROM tblLogin : gives the EntireList of Column

2. SELECT UserName from tblLogin : gives the only

UserName

1000

Using select * you can retrive all the values from the table can't able to get the particular column or row

Using select columnname from table using this you can able to fetch the records from the particular column and row
