display a progress bar or message box during a query

I was wondering how i could achieve a popup box with either a static message or a progress bar while the data loads in a gridview?  I have a button that loads the data from an access database and while the data is loading. I was wondering how I could have some sort of box pop up to show the users that something is happening.
