dll and assemblies

.Dll [Dynamic Link Library] :

1) Dll project independent.

2) A DLL file can have a nearly infinite possible entry points.

3) DLL may contain either structured or object oriented libraries.

4) Dll cannot Run on its own

5) Many .dll files may exists in one application.

6) .dll can be shared with other applications.

Assemblies:

1) An assembly is a collection of one or more files and one of them DLL or EXE.

2) assembly is project specific.

3) An assembly is the unit of deployment and security for managed code projects. It is a .NET Component and can be used only in .NET managed applications.Compiled code at run time is an assembly and After compilation of the requested ASP.NET file is complete, the assembly is loaded into the application domain, allowing late binding.

Dot.net Assembles compiled source code to generate the binary output. The binary output can be dll or exe & the group of compiled unit which generates the binaries are assemblies.
