Help steer me from VB6 to C#

I am a relative beginner programmer with the only OO experience being VB6. Due to expansions coming up within my place of employment I have the to get into C#. I know it is a big jump but if any one has any books that they could recommend as good stepping stones then it would be much appreciated. I am by no means a natural as have had a past employment of twenty years in the automotive trade. So yes everyday I am learning something new. Once again any suggestions will be much appreciated.

I'm also soon to be taking courses in the .NET environment and it's good to see there's some usefull literature out there. :)

well really C# for absolute beginner is more than gr8 it contain alsoo graphic and game programming and is real easy u won't belive that , it helped me soo made soo many programes soon i'l make an easy game (isa) real the best i could hear about , alsoo it's not that big, so u won't be boored ........

The free demo might do all you need in this case. Actually, the best bet would be to find a VB6 to VB.NET wizard (I don't know if the Microsoft upgrade wizard does snippets), and then use the Instant C# demo.

SO if I wanted to convert from VBA to C#. net this would be the best bet then?

It converts VB.NET code, but it will probably convert much of any snippet of VBA you try since a lot hasn't changed from VB6 to VB.NET. I've actually found it pretty useful even for some VB6 to C# conversion.

You may also want to download one of the better VB to C# converters, such as Instant C# (www.instantcsharp.com). It's advertised as VB.NET to C#, but it will convert a lot of VB6 code also.

pillsbury, "I'm reading C# and the .NET Platform second edition by Andrew Troelsen and it's an awesome book" Examples in this book is too sad and OOP-principles written too short. This book is good intoduction into platform .net, not a cource for ex-VB-programers

I think, if begin, then begin from C#, not VB.net, despite IL-Code will be same :-). C# is more progressive.

Thank you for that and I do agree that he would be my favourite author regarding programming as well...I guess from here it is a matter of coming to grips with the syntax, which for me is a whole different ballgame compared to vb. I have browsed through the Epert One-on-One VB.net and perhaps this is good start re .net. Chow for now Al

http://www.apress.com/book/bookDisplay.html?bID=284 That one is new, might not be avaiable yet. I have the one in VB.NET, but it's easilly translated into C#. Hands down, he is my favorite author. The book really does not cover language syntax though, you must know that first. His VB6 book was pretty much my bible back then too. John...

Heaps are there Professional C# from Wrox is a good one . But msdn is the best. http://msdn.mocrosoft.com/.net should help u more than anything else Good Luck
