How can i capture image using webcam

Hello House,
Please am writing an application that caputres and saves an image (via a webcam athached to serialport of pc) when a button is clicked, also is captures and saves image captured when data "a" is received from the serialport of the pc. any ideas or clues will be highly appreciated.
