How install nodejs and typescript in VS Code using terminal

Do the following from your terminal

step-1 download and install NodeJS from here https://nodejs.org/en/download/

step-2 npm install -g typescript

I have followed the steps, how do i create a new folder to VS code? So that all my web js files under that folder as similar to VS when doing MVC 5?
