how to handle null value while getting image in asp.net

Session["EmpPhoto"] = dsUser.Tables[0].Rows[0]["EmpPhoto"].ToString();

imageUser.ImageUrl = Session["Photo"].ToString();//here i am getting error

i have to show username and userphoto after he logged into the site. but for a particular user i dont have image so i am getting error" Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Hi Nitin yes you are right i was modified that thing . now i am getting the image while debugging but it not display in image control but alternate image is diplaying. i was saved the img in db as varbinary(MAX)

Could it be a problem that on first line you are saying Session["EmpPhoto"] and on second line you are saying Session["Photo"]?

Remember that Session is just dictionary which is not even type safe. It means if you ask for a value which is not been set, it will simply return null.

Hi Sowjanya,

Please check for null or empty session before casting it.
if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(Session["Photo"] as string))
{
imageUser.ImageUrl = Session["Photo"].ToString();
}
else
{
imageUser.ImageUrl ="default image url";//Set default image here
}
