How to improve programming skills

I need to know that does the algorithms and the programs we learn in our programming books really help us in problem solving .Is really finding the sum of two numbers and making a program for that.... much helpful?If it is so then from where to start with ?

If you learn then you will always learn you will never progressed.Involve yourself to a problem and try to find the solution.Am sure you will know lot of things from it.

Komal, I think going to such sites and solving problems is also not going to give you a confidence you actually need.

Which technology you work with? Java, C#? Asp.net? Please tell.

Accordingly, I am sure there will be a book which covers a project end-to-end. From UI to database including business layer.

And if you are really, really serious about this, I suggest think of your own project. All you need is a bit of imagination.

You can write software of local transport agency. You can write software of accounting of co-operative housing society. You can write a voucher printing system for a small office. Anything like that.

Alson keep in mind that language is merely a tool to build the programming skills. I would suggest never focus on single programming language. Get used to multiple languages. It will help.For algorithm development, Hackerrank.com, HackerEarth.com For in depth issue solving skills, stackoverflow.com ( be careful about posting answers here . ;) )

It's never about books. Book is there to make you aware about technology and other stuff. Skill improvements come from practice. Participate in some online coding competitions and try to solve using different programming languages.
