How to Update multiple tables in a single MVC view?

Hello,

I have 3 tables Employee, EmployeeDepartment and EmployeeSalary.

All 3 tables are related and presented as a grid values in index.cshtml view.

From the index view grid rows i want to edit single employee id(Edit.cshtml) which should post the datas in all the 3 tables.

What could be the best approach for posting this values from view to database?

Hi Manikandan,
Create your model like below format,
public class Employee
   {
       public int EmpId { get; set; }
       public string EName { get; set; }
       public string Email { get; set; }
       public int DeptId { get; set; }
       public string DeptName { get; set; }
       public double Salary { get; set; }
       public DateTime SalaryDate { get; set; }
   }
Create your controller which receives your EmpId while clicking the table in records,
[HttpPost]
Public ActionResult EditEmployee(int EmpId)
{
Employee emp=new Employee();
EmployeeEntities _Entitty=New EmployeeEntities();
emp=_Entity.Employee.where(x=>x.EmpId==EmpId).select(x=> new Employee
{
EmpId=x.EmpId,
EName=x.EName,
Email=x.Email,
DeptId=x.EmployeeDepartment.DeptID,
DeptName=x.EmployeeDepartment.DepName,
Salary=x.EmployeeSalary.Salary,
SalaryDate=x.EmployeeSalary.SalaryDate
});
return View(emp);
}
Create view for this EditEmployee ActionResult. I hope!.. It should work!..

Not working!!

unable to access the other table entities in below lines. "x" holds only the Employee model attributes.
DeptId=x.EmployeeDepartment.DeptID,
DeptName=x.EmployeeDepartment.DepName,
Salary=x.EmployeeSalary.Salary,
SalaryDate=x.EmployeeSalary.SalaryDate

Table is simple.
Table 1 - Employee
Columns - EmpId(pk), EName,Email
Table 2 - EmployeeDepartment
Columns - EmpId, DeptID, DepName
Table 3 - EmployeeSalary
Columns - EmpID, Salary, SalaryDate

Columns to display in UI as a table - EmpId,EName,Email, DepName, Salary, SalaryDate

I am looking for CRUD code for able details. I am using Entity framework here

I want to know how do you join select the muliple tables and updating the same in database.

Hi,

Try out this logic.

Create a ViewModel with all required fields from the three tables.

public class ViewModel
{
public int EmpID { get; set; } //Employee Table
public string EmpName { get; set; } //Employee Table
public string EmpDepartment { get; set; } //EmployeeDepartment Table
public int Salary { get; set; } //EmployeeSalary Table
}
Create an instance for that ViewModel and assign values to the fields. And pass to your view.
//Controller.cs
public ActionResult Create(int Id)
{
ViewModel mymodel = new ViewModel();
mymodel.EmpID =1;
mymodel.EmpName ="Test";
mymodel.EmpDepartment ="Test";
mymodel.Salary =10;
return View(mymodel)
}

You can retrieve the passed values in your view by importing the ViewModel.
//View
@model Web.Controllers.YourController.ViewModel
