Is UserProfile a useless thing?

I am using profile provider to save the first name, last name, date of birth etc.
Now, I want to CALCULATE the age of a person in my STOREDPROCEDURE (SQL).
I posted this online
(http://forums.asp.net/t/1357879.aspx) and I feel like - it is not easy to access the userprofile details in the sql.
Any idea!
