KeyPress pipeline

oren_weizman

Hi all, I'm a bit new to C#, this is my first post here. I'd like to get the KeyPress events in a simple C# WinForm. I used the wizard to make a simple class inheriting from System.Windows.Forms.Form - np. Added a KeyPress handeler, works well - I get the events. But if I add a tab control I stop getting the events in the main window. I want to make sure certain keys allways reach the main window and not any of the controls in it. Any Ideas? Thanks

Use KeyPreview property of Form object.

Yes I tried that and sure I get the event in the tab contorl. Thing is I have a few keys I'd like to take care of on the main window level. Is there a way I can catch all keyevents before they reach the controls?

I AM Not sure, but tab control is a container - so it actualy takes a lot of place on the window. (depends how you putted it. the default is what I mean). Cause of that, most of the time you are on the window, the TAB control has focus, and not the window itself. So, The key event is fired from the TAB control, since you have no event handler for that control - nothing happens. Why not add the same key press-event handler of the window to the control and see what happens?
