mysql performance improvement

Hi, I am using Mysql 5.1 in my c# application and the performance of an application is very slow, so i need to improve the performance while retrieving the data from the database so i need to know if i use Mysql 6.0 then is any possibility of performance improvement.

Any updated version of Mysql connector in .net to improve the performance in my application.
