Here is small example for your question Consier following xml document on which we want to manipulate xml version = "1.0" encoding = "utf-8" ?> Class > Students > studentName > Amit studentName > studentAge > 20 studentAge > studentResult > PASS studentResult > Students > Students > studentName > Vikram studentName > studentAge > 19 studentAge > studentResult > FAIL studentResult > Students > Students > studentName > Siddhesh studentName > studentAge > 20 studentAge > studentResult > PASS studentResult > Students > Class > There are many ways we can manipulate and read the given xml document in c# 1) Using XmlDocument , XmlNode and XmlElement . You can use this classes to navigate elements of xml document systematically. public void ReadXML() { string appData = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.GetData( "DataDirectory" ).ToString(); string path = Path.Combine(appData, "XMLDemo.xml" ); XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument(); // Require using System.Xml; doc.Load(path); XmlNodeList nodes = doc.DocumentElement.SelectNodes( "/Class/Students" ); foreach (XmlNode node in nodes) // XMLNode is Students node of class element { //fetching individual node value from Students Node var studentName = node.SelectSingleNode( "studentName" ).InnerText; var studentAge = node.SelectSingleNode( "studentAge" ).InnerText; var studentResult = node.SelectSingleNode( "studentResult" ).InnerText; } XmlElement root = doc.DocumentElement; // Will give you root xml element XmlNodeList elemList = root.GetElementsByTagName( "Students" ); // getting Students Node from XMLElement object foreach (XmlNode node in nodes) { var studentName = node.SelectSingleNode( "studentName" ).InnerText; var studentAge = node.SelectSingleNode( "studentAge" ).InnerText; var studentResult = node.SelectSingleNode( "studentResult" ).InnerText; } } In the above example i have used XmlDocument of System.Xml namespace for navigating xml elements first using SelectNodes method i have fetch XMLNodeList and iterating XMLNode for accessing all child elements .
