If your company is providing this facilities then you can do it. Otherwise you donot invest money on it. Any company give job on basis of our technical skills. So there are so many ways to improve our practical  technical skill like helping other, doing some free project for open source  etc.

Certifications help in many ways:
1- First and formost, while preparing for the exam objectives you are preparing against Microsoft's benchmark for the technology. So are learning what is needed most in that technology.
2- Once you have cleared the exam you have earned the credibility in market as you have demonstrated the knowledge by qualifying the exam (some companies prefer certified people, but that doesn't assure a job).
3- Most important, what I found exciting is that; it is most thrilled way to learn new things, otherwise people take learning technology easy and they never get to learn it.
