.NET is going to become obsolete

I think although Richard Grimes comments are insightful, they are a bit cynical and perhaps a bit too harsh and overly critical. I agree with him that VB.NET was kind of a forced work around for VB programmers, but I find the .NET framework and the steering of programming to an OO framework a better choice for VB programmers from a design perspective. I think the .NET framework allows a programmer to code and design faster and better than any previous environment, and I'm not sure why Richard dodges some of these good points. We are starting to see .NET products spring out into the market, so even if Microsoft isn't writing much in .NET, others are moving in this direction. I've noticed in the business world, people are moving to write client side applications in .NET because of the ease of GUI development over other platforms such as Java. And speaking from my own experience, .NET can handle server side development as well. I guess my question to Richard would be, "If you are a Windows programmer, what other development platform would you want to use?" If there is a better one out there, I'd be willing to try it. -Mike G
