We don't have many members from Japan but I hope all members and their family and friends are safe. That was a highly unusual huge quake. The tsunami afterward was deadly. I know that the aftershocks haved continued; I think there has been at least one aftershock 5.0 or above each hour since the big 8.9 shake.
There is so much news that the news services have not been reporting. We have heard nothing about countries such as China and the Philipines or anywhere else that I assume the tsunami also reached. I think there has been desctruction in places of the world that our news is not tellnig us about. I hope everyone we know are safe.
I live on the other side of the Pacific and I have also experienced large earthquakes, but I hope I never experince a tsunami such as what Japan experienced nearly 24 hours ago.

There were other recent earthquakes that were also very deadly. I think the Haiti earthquake was terrible. Many deaths afterward were caused by disease. Japan is among the most prepared countries for earthquakes; otherwise it would have been much worse. There are things in this one that they were not prepared for. The earth seems to have swallowed an entire train. The sea swallowed a boat with many passengers. Japan was not prepared for the tsunami.
Countries such as Haiti was not built to withstand an earthquake. It was terrible.
I assume that India was also not prepared for the tsunami. I think the world learned from that tsunami; the affect on many countries. So now there are at least better warning systems for the future. But the tsunami in Japan was too fast and massive for them to escape it. It is terrible and the reports of the number of lives lost will certainly increase in the next few days.

Never seen such devastation in my life. I pray to God to spare this country from anymore earthquakes. We pray for all those who lost their lives in the most tragic incident of this year.
India also faced tsunami some years back. Remains of which can still be seen in some places.
