Reasons to prefer C#?

Ok, so:

- microsoft only
- works only on microsoft
- limited to decisions of microsoft
- looses to java

I always wondered why on earth would you use this java#-- wannabie?

To make microsoft expand its monopoly even further?!

And no, mono is NOT official implementation and is UNSUPPORTED.

Good point, Glenn; a true professor would know.

Note however that a true professor would know how to spell professor, so proffessor is probably not a professor.

I think you can get the best answers from you yourself. Why not learn both worlds so that you can get the most reliable response. User's of these technologies might be biased to answer you.

Does this member qualify as troll? To the extent that this is the only thread created by the member and it is a highly controversial subject, I think it is reasonable to suspect that the member intends to make trouble.

C# has in fact been standardized by ECMA and by ISO and Mono is an implementation of this standard. This means that the language can be and is used on a number of platforms including Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and Android.

No programming language is created in a vacuum and C# was influenced by a number of languages including C++, Java, Eiffel and Object Pascal. Java in turn was influenced, amongst others, by C++, Eiffel, Oberon and UCSD Pascal. So I don't think it's fair to call C# a Java wannabe or, for that matter, Java a C++ wannabe.

Some developers dislike Microsoft and others dislike Oracle (and Sun before it). However, I don't think you should let what you think of a language's main sponsor cloud the merits of the language itself. After all both languages are effectively free.

As Senthilkumar said, there are many reasons why one might prefer C# to Java and vice versa. Nowadays, this site is supporting both.

It may be Microsoft marketing strategies to sell and dominate the other products in the market. This majority of IT people was born from the Windows and Microsoft believes if they are not in the market then nothing...

If you started to talk Java Vs C# then it should be never ending topic... But some one should agree both has its own cons and pros...

But technically there should be some reasons.
