references between objects

Hello everybody, i'm new to c# and have to deal with the following problem: i want to create objects containg data that comes from a sql-database. so far everything works fine. the problem is that i don't know how the created objects could link each other, or in other words: how the objects can refer each other. For example i could have an object of a class "person" and have at least one object of the class "car", and would like to have a reference from the person to every car the person has got, but WITHOUT using a member variable. Has anyone an idea how to do that? Thank you, rabbit

Maybe you are right, and i really got confused and had that fix idea in my mind. However, i'll do it with member variables now, and many thanks for the responses. rabbit

Hi rabbit, It's my pleasure messing about .net framework (-; But I don't know what you are talking about. I think that you've got confused. I haven't heard of a command conatinging @, at least not in C#. @ is used to avoid character escaping for strings and for directives in aspx pages. The only ways for an object to hold a reference to another that I can think of are members and local declarations in method bodies.

Hi Stefan, thanks for your response. It should work with a member variable, but i heard of a simpler way to "attach" an object to another, without a member variable, could have been a command with an @ in it, but i didn't find it when i tried to look it up. do you know what i mean? Thanks, rabbit

Why not use a member variable? You can always implement a helper class, say PersonCarsRelation that has a member for person and a member for collection of Cars. I personally like having a collection of cars member in the person class. As far as I recall in .net every class instance is being held by reference except for the classes deriving from System.ValueType.
