Reflection is commonly used for the following tasks in VB.NET and other .NET languages: 1. Examining metadata. For example, if you need to examine attributes applied to classes, methods or other entities, this can be done using reflection. 2. Type discovery. If you're loading an assembly dynamically, you can discover the types which it contains, and instantiate them at runtime. 3. Late binding. Having discovered and instantiated a type at runtime, you can call methods/properties of that type using reflection. This is called late-binding because you bind to the method to be called at runtime rather than at compile time. 4. Reflection Emit. This enables you to create completely new types, and members for those types, at runtime rather than at compile time. You can then instantiate those types and call their methods/properties. Creating custom classes at runtime using reflection emit may be a better option than trying to create more generic code at compile time.
