Select statement in SQL Server

Hi,

we create a table which has a columns named as name. From name column we want to select only first three name if name contains more than three character Left other character from name. How can do that ?

Not sure exactly what you mean but, if you mean that you want to select the first three, leftmost three characters of those 'name' columns which have more than three characters, then I'd try this:

SELECT TOP(3) LEFT(name, 3) FROM SomeTable WHERE LEN(name) > 3
