My future as a SharePoint Guy

Question

Hello I am a SharePoint guy but weak in my programming skills like C# and asp.net.Is it better choice to only know out of box features. Please Guide me How I improve?

Hi Vipin, SharePoint guy must know the OOB features. But also requires other skills like understanding of how SharePoint works, SharePoint Architecture, SharePoint best practices, Migration from one version to another, Rest services etc. Nowadays Office 365 / SharePoint online is very heavily used. We do mostly client side implementations with SharePoint online since it is cloud. For a developer it more required knowledge of JavaScript (JSOM), CSOM, PowerShell (PowerShell + CSOM), SharePoint designer, Rest services, Wcf Services etc. plus the SharePoint features (like SharePoint Apps, workflows ). Please let me know if you require more details or any help.

Hi Viipiin, Thanks! In case of SharePoint hands on are very important. Nowadays there are lots of migration work from SharePoint on premises to SharePoint online. I would say do a small migration project. Implement custom site, few web parts, libraries / list in any version of SharePoint on premises and migrate to SharePoint online. If you do not have SharePoint online then there is Microsoft Development program for Office 365, in which they provide 1 year free subscription of Office 365. Please check this link - http://dev.office.com/devprogram Also currently SharePoint 2016 is in Beta, please start exploring what are new features there. These kind of things will definitely help for the job. Please let me know if you requires more details or help.

Hi Sir, Thanks for the quick response. I have knowledge of all most every topic you suggest not practically but I don't have hands on practice over them.I know how to work with these features.I am good in my OOB and SharePoint Designer. Any good suggestion help me more to build my career as a SharePoint Developer. Thanks!
