Software Engineer (.NET)

Mahesh, an engineer is someone with a degree. Usually the term Software Engineer is used whether a degree exists or not, but there are some instances where a Software Engineer must have a degree in something relevant to software development.

Rashed, be sure to get educated in system design and analysis. You probably will want to have some management training. If you can get a job that is highly technical and advanced, such as writing a compiler, then management will be less important but management can give you an advantage that your competition might not have.

Most of us want work that is more glamorous than maintenance programming. There is however likely to be more opportunity for programmers willing to do maintenace. As far as I know, universities do not prepare students for doing maintenance. I think however that all system analysts need to be experienced with maintenance, otherwise they will likely design software that is more expensive to develp, use (get good performance) and maintain. Yet with an education that includes system analysis and management you might be able to get work managing development projects. I know of at least three companies that have lost a lot of money (probably millions) by trying to save money by using inexperienced staff, but the point is that companies are more likely to give beginners a better job if the applicant has system analysis and management training.
