to do some heavy calculations or I/O on UI thread wpf

i had one existing code that code works fine ,but issue is when i click on my manage protection tab ,that works for system drives,i.e our c,d,e drives,so for that they write thread for some time span after that thread our disks on our pc will be loaded to grid.

how i over come the reduce time span  ,and how i do avoid blocking or waiting for long running tasks,how i do ui more responsive when loadig my system disks,
