this product by BlackHawd does the exact same thing i just told you, and also commits a timer event to upload the file in order to receive changes in the upstream

based on the time it took you can calculate the ammount of time it will take you to upload a bigger file size,
and as part of your javascript part, get the file size prior to the file.upload, or use Ajax Framework to get it.
