Hi Krishna,

Creates a List from an IEnumerable.

string[] fruits = { "apple", "passionfruit", "banana", "mango", "orange", "blueberry", "grape", "strawberry" };

List lengths = fruits.Select(fruit => fruit.Length).ToList();
foreach (int length in lengths)
{
Console.WriteLine(length);
}
/*
This code produces the following output:
5
12
6
5
6
9
5
10
*/

in your example, output getting save into var data type.

Hi Krishna, ToList converts collections to List instances. It is a fast and easy-to-remember method. It returns a List instance with the appropriate elements. It creates a new List internally, with the List constructor.

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
class Program
{
static void Main()
{
//
// Use this input string[] array.
// ... Convert it to a List with the ToList extension.
//
string[] array = new string[]
{
"A",
"B",
"C",
"D"
};
List list = array.ToList();
//
// Display the list.
//
Console.WriteLine(list.Count);
foreach (string value in list)
{
Console.WriteLine(value);
}
}
}
Output
4
A
B
C
D

ToList() method converts a collection to a List and list can be of any type int,string,class etc
in your code you are converting the departments to a list of departments and storing in to
var variable which will be of type of list of depts because in var keyword the datatype of right hand side is created for Var.
I hope this was helpful for you.
