Hi, Definitions of REST is given in other answers. Trying to put briefs of being a RESTful API. REST - Stantds for Representational state transfer. It is architectural patterns or web architecture. It has many characteristics. For a service or say API to be RESTful it is reqired to satisfy REST constraints. As we know Asp.net is stateful and HTML is stateless. Generally server side web technologies are stateful and HTML is stateless. RESTful service - let you communicate and use services over Http, gives interoperability over http can be consumed by different technologies Java, .NET , PHP. Can deliver data in response in universally accepted formats JSON, XMLetc. So there is defined set of characteristics and constraints that if your servivce satisfies or meets the constraints then it will be RESTful. Example - Stateless – No server side data store. Supporting HTTP verbs GET, PUT, POST , DELETE etc. There is list of REST constraints and example given in below links.
