Which Language? help! :(

i dont intend to start a debate about vb.net over C# or vice versa; i konw its a flamming war but juts wanted some general info.
I posted a comment a while back but forgot to add some info.
i heared that vb.net is going to be extinct soon? i doubt it as its up there with C# and both compiled into MSIL so both are equal in power.
thing is there are more jobs in C# than in VB; but vb is much easier to learn, and would mean i have to learn almost everything again in c# and its just so complex in comparison but heard it would be worth learning over vb in the long run ... argh just so confused; scared incase i stick with vb and it becomes dormant soon.

Hi John.....

I work in a company where I got chance to work with people who developed .NET.... We conducted so much PDC's, training, online events but we never came across with this news that any one of VB.NET or C# will be phased out from .NET language stack. So don't worry my friend. If you are suitable with VB.NET then go for it... if C#, then have fun with C#.

But my suggestion is whatever language you choose, understand the concept. Concepts are same for both only difference between syntax.

If you feel VB.NET is easy to learn.... I would suggest you to go to VB.NET. As I told you, after working 3 years, you will realize there are not so much of differences between these two languages. After all we talk with MSIL... not C# or VB.NET....

only thing is with VB.NET i can already get up and running with classes, call instances, methods, ect i understand so much more already on VB.NET. i grew bored as i heard of c# and was curious as there were far more jobs out there for this. but once i seen the syntax it was very verbose and a little off putting, static, and void, and all the "using" statements and everything else there that there was no need for they could be hidden away somewhere haha :) (my opinion) just a little scary for a new guy to start with C# i have so much power on vb just now im tempted to stick with it for now and then get a good grounding as you suggested and then once i have mastered it C# may not look that scary after all down the line, or maybe im too critical on it and havent given it a chance yet.

I would suggest you to start with VB.NET. In my career, I have seen more people to say like "VB.NET is much easier than C#". I dont know why they are saying like this.....

Anyway, wait for others to suggest you & then take decision.

hey again guys, same post i done a while ago but sorry to bring it back up lol :)

i kno i choosed c# previously but still cant help but stop and scratch my head and think "would i be better learning VB first to get a grounding then moving onto another language as a few here have suggested"?

one thing i forgot to ask and the reason i brought this post back up is to say "what language would you honestly choose if you were in my shoes to start with and why?"

i kno i can be a pain .. :)

I have decided to stay with C# for a few reasons.
1) There is more out there documented for support
2) There are more jobs out there around C/Java/C# ect
3) Better use with XNA and more support

so, C# it is :)

Tell you what, working on any language for atleast 2-3 years should make one comfortable in software architecture and language basics and how it works etc. Now, only new thing comes up when you want to move into other is syntax and few changes in other language but on a broader sense, VB, C# look similar except syntaxes and few things which are in one and not in another but limited to not so core things. I would say not to worry even if VB vanishes though its not the case as many are still using VB with .Net
