Which language is better depends on your project and what you are doing. Until recently I had no VB background (but plenty in Java, C, C++, Pascal, Fortran, etc. ) but was given the task to maintain and modify a small VB program. Because of the relative simplicity of VB, it was quite quick for me to get up to speed to the point where I could carry out the task.
On the other hand, I do not think you can do as much with VB, or perhaps not as easilly, as you can with a higher level programming language. So if you task is to fix/write/maintain more complex applications, I would suppose C# is the better choice. If your ultimate goal is to be good at one of them, go for C#, as it will get you further and is closer to C++ and Java so you can more easilly work in those at a later point in time.

Hi
It depends on your background. If you are from ASP,VB then better to go with VB.Net and if you are from C,C++ or Java background then better to go with C#. If you are startign your career then better to go with C#.

There are lots of discussions in trade magazines and forums about this with excellent developers on either side. C# is becoming more popular than VB recently, but when all the preferences of keywords are set aside, there's not that much difference.
