Job Description

As a Data Scientist at Visa, you will be an integral part of our fraud analytics and machine learning team. Your work will directly contribute to building market-relevant fraud solutions for clients, while also advancing Visa’s intellectual property in the field. This is a highly dynamic role that combines technical expertise, business acumen, and innovative problem-solving skills to deliver tangible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Model Validation and Analysis

  • Validate newly developed fraud risk models.
  • Conduct performance analysis at aggregate and issuer levels.
  • Interpret and present analytical results to a non-technical audience effectively.

Model Deployment and Calibration

  • Prepare new model testing packages for production deployment.
  • Support the installation, calibration, and fine-tuning of risk models to meet client and market demands.

Analytics for Product Development

  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses on diverse data sources to enhance Visa’s fraud detection products.
  • Generate innovative insights and ideas to continuously improve the product suite.

Automation and Self-Service Tools

  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive analyses.
  • Build scalable self-service tools that empower business users.

Business Support and Ad-hoc Analysis

  • Support sales and business teams with sound statistical and financial analysis.
  • Execute ad-hoc analyses to meet the dynamic needs of the market.

Big Data and Cloud Analytics

  • Conduct transaction data analyses using big data tools like Hadoop and cloud technologies.
  • Develop insights into Visa’s fraud detection products using advanced statistical and machine learning methods.

Cross-Team Collaboration and Education

  • Deliver projects within defined timelines to meet critical business needs.
  • Advocate for big data innovations and promote analytics education across the Visa organization.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Operational Research, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering) OR Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated success in predictive modeling, supported by internships or at least 6 months of experience in a similar role.
  • Expertise in at least two of the following areas.
    • Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms.
    • Large-scale data analysis and scalable systems (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
    • Statistical learning theory, optimization, or deep learning.
  • Proficiency in Python, Spark, TensorFlow, H2O, and extensive hands-on experience with SQL and Hive for data extraction and aggregation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a keen eye for detail.

Preferred Requirements

  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of the financial payments industry, especially fraud modeling, is an added advantage.
