We are seeking a seasoned Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with a specialization in SQL Server (L3) and a strong background in performance tuning and automation. This role will involve overseeing the administration of our database systems, ensuring their smooth operation to support our user-facing services 24/7/365. The successful candidate will be adept at implementing best practices, developing standards and procedures, and collaborating with vendor DBA teams to optimize our database environment. This position requires exceptional problem-solving skills, a proactive approach to performance monitoring and tuning, and the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Administer databases and ensure the continuous operation of systems supporting user-facing services.
- Supervise vendor DBA teams and oversee daily workflow within the department.
- Develop and implement standards, procedures, and policies related to the database environment.
- Assess current and future needs of the organization and define specifications for the database management system (DBMS).
- Test and implement new applications in the database environment, ensuring adherence to defined procedures.
- Monitor and assess database performance, recommending enhancements and changes as needed.
- Implement and enforce data security and integrity measures.
- Coordinate system storage allocation and plan for future storage requirements.
- Perform advanced database performance tuning and monitoring.
- Lead database reliability and performance efforts in collaboration with application teams.
- Analyze solutions and implement best practices for supported databases.
- Investigate and resolve problems/incidents, directing DBA teams as necessary.
- Drive productivity and operational excellence, identifying improvement opportunities and recommending remediation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related Information Technology disciplines.
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in database administration, including installation, configuration, backup/recovery, tuning, and support of application design and development.
- Expertise in SQL Server (L3) and other database technologies such as Oracle, Postgres, MongoDB, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery techniques.
- Experience working as an Application DBA, optimizing database-related codes.
- Familiarity with geo-redundant middleware and database architectures.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proactive attitude with the ability to multitask and work independently.
- Results-oriented with a focus on delivery.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for managing stakeholders across multiple business units.
