We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Data Scientist to join our Personalization Team at MakeMyTrip in Bangalore. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, individual contributor (IC) who is passionate about leveraging advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques to drive personalized customer experiences. As a Principal Data Scientist, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop cutting-edge analytics solutions, optimize personalization strategies, and contribute to the strategic growth of MakeMyTrip.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Analytics & Modeling
- Design & Develop Models. Create and implement advanced machine learning models and algorithms, including generative AI, uplift modeling, and causal inference, to enhance personalized customer experiences.
- Predictive & Prescriptive Analytics. Lead the development of predictive and prescriptive analytics solutions to optimize customer engagement and personalization strategies.
- Deep Learning Expertise. Utilize neural networks and graph neural networks for advanced personalization solutions.
- Optimization Models. Implement trip ranking and route optimization models to improve user experience and efficiency.
- Cross-Sell Strategies. Design models and strategies to determine optimal cross-sell opportunities, maximizing customer value and engagement.
Data Strategy & Management
- Collaborate with Data Engineering. Work closely with data engineering teams to ensure robust data pipelines and high-quality data for analysis.
- Scalable Data Infrastructure. Develop and maintain scalable data infrastructure and architectures to support advanced personalization analytics.
Business Collaboration & Insights
- Stakeholder Engagement. Partner with product managers, marketing teams, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive personalization and customer value.
- Translate Insights. Convert complex analytical insights into actionable personalization strategies and business recommendations.
Innovation & Research
- Stay Updated. Keep abreast of the latest advancements in deep learning, generative AI, uplift modeling, and causal inference methodologies.
- Lead Research Initiatives. Drive research initiatives to explore new methodologies, tools, and technologies applicable to MakeMyTrip’s personalization efforts.
Mentorship & Leadership
- Technical Leadership. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data scientists and analysts.
- Culture of Learning. Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the data science team.
Qualifications
Education
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
Experience
- Extensive Experience. Minimum of 8-10 years of hands-on experience in data science, with a proven track record of delivering impactful analytics solutions.
- Deep Learning Frameworks. Extensive experience with deep learning frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, and proficiency in generative AI techniques.
- Uplift Modeling & Causal Inference. Strong expertise in uplift modeling and causal inference methodologies.
- Programming Proficiency. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL.
- Modern ML Platforms. Experience with modern data and machine learning platforms and tools such as Databricks, MLFlow, MLOps, and AWS SageMaker.
Skills
- Machine Learning & Data Mining. Strong expertise in advanced machine learning, deep learning, and data mining techniques.
- Problem-Solving. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication. Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Industry Experience. Experience in personalization, particularly in the travel or e-commerce industry, is a plus.
