As a Data Engineer within YouTube's Analytics and Data Science team, you’ll be joining a vibrant community of data professionals who work on transformative projects, ranging from the development of data pipelines to the creation of analytics tools that support YouTube’s content partnerships and creator ecosystem.
Your role will be pivotal in helping business leaders make informed decisions by delivering accurate and actionable business intelligence. Using SQL and YouTube's ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) systems, you’ll work to generate and optimize critical datasets, while also setting standards and best practices for data governance, reporting, and analysis.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, business users, and executive stakeholders to identify and document business data requirements through project scoping and requirements-gathering sessions.
- Design and implement data architectures, including ETL pipelines, to ensure data accessibility for Business Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and other business users, enabling robust data-driven decision-making.
- Work closely with analysts to scale up data integrations and transformations, enhance model features, and deploy statistical and machine learning models.
- Ensure data reliability, integrity, and governance across the ecosystem, fostering the creation of accurate and consistent business intelligence products and analyses.
- Engage with analysts to understand user journeys, data sourcing issues, and inefficiencies, providing solutions to improve data accessibility and usability.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering) or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering or business intelligence roles.
- Proficiency with relational databases, SQL queries, database design, and schema definition.
- Experience with one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics).
- Experience with data warehouses, distributed data platforms, and data lakes.
- Ability to solve complex, multi-dimensional problems.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity in fast-paced environments with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong business and technical communication skills, with proven organizational and investigative capabilities.
