AWS and Humain Partner for $5B AI Zone in Saudi Arabia

AWS and Humain Partner

Strategic Collaboration with Saudi AI Firm Humain

Amazon has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Humain, an AI company recently launched by Saudi Arabia’s ruler, Mohammed bin Salman. The tech giant will invest over $5 billion in this collaboration to establish an innovative AI Zone in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant step in the kingdom's ambitions to become a global hub for AI development.

Key Features of the AI Zone

The AI Zone will feature cutting-edge Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, including AI servers, networks, and a range of training and certification programs designed to foster the growth of AI talent in the region. According to an official press release, Humain will develop AI solutions using AWS technologies and collaborate with AWS to provide essential tools and support for AI startups based in Saudi Arabia.

Tech Giants Join Forces for Saudi AI Future

Humain’s AI venture is backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which also funds other major tech projects. Amazon’s partnership with Humain joins the ranks of Nvidia, AMD, and other tech industry giants working closely with the Saudi fund. American tech companies such as Google and Salesforce have also recently engaged with the PIF, reflecting growing investments in AI and technology-related projects in the region.

U.S.-Saudi Tech Alliances Strengthen

At a U.S.-Saudi investment forum attended by former President Donald Trump and several tech leaders, it was revealed that a new initiative under the Trump administration allows U.S.-based tech companies, including Nvidia and AMD, to strike deals with Saudi firms. This is part of a broader strategy to bolster ties between American tech suppliers and the Saudi Arabian market.

Data Sovereignty Mandate Drives Tech Expansion

As part of its strategic push, Saudi Arabia has mandated that AI companies and services in the kingdom store their data locally. This policy has encouraged vendors to set up data facilities in the region to avoid losing valuable contracts. Google and Oracle have already announced plans to expand their operations in Saudi Arabia in response to these new regulations.

Amazon’s Commitment to Saudi Investment

Earlier this year, Amazon committed to spending billions on building data centers in Saudi Arabia. The company’s $5.3 billion investment to develop a new AWS region in the kingdom, scheduled to go online in 2026, is a significant part of its long-term strategy for the Middle East. The AI Zone investment is described as an additional, separate commitment, though it remains unclear whether Amazon’s financial contribution to the AI Zone will be drawn from the previously announced funds.

This collaboration signals a strong commitment from both Amazon and Saudi Arabia to make the kingdom a global leader in AI innovation, supporting the region’s growing technological infrastructure and startup ecosystem.
