Google Expands Gemini Across Workspace With New AI Features for Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive
Google Workspace with Gemini

Google has announced a new set of Gemini AI updates for Google Workspace, bringing enhanced capabilities to core productivity tools such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. The updates are designed to help users create documents faster, analyze data more easily, and collaborate more efficiently using AI-powered assistance.

The new features are rolling out in beta to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, expanding Gemini’s role as an integrated assistant inside Workspace apps.

Gemini Turns Blank Pages Into Finished Documents

One of the biggest upgrades focuses on document creation in Google Docs. With Gemini integrated directly into the editor interface, users can now generate a complete first draft simply by describing what they want.

For example, users can ask Gemini to draft newsletters, project reports, or event plans based on existing files, meeting notes, or other materials stored in their Workspace account. The AI can then refine the document, rewrite sections, or adjust tone and style with additional prompts.

This feature aims to eliminate the common “blank page problem,” allowing users to move quickly from idea to polished draft.

AI That Connects Information Across Files and Emails

Another key enhancement is contextual data integration across Workspace apps. Users can choose sources—such as files in Google Drive or messages in Gmail—and Gemini will automatically extract relevant information to support the task at hand.

This allows Gemini to connect insights across multiple documents and emails, helping users summarize projects, prepare reports, or gather research without manually searching through folders.

Google says the system keeps user data secure while enabling AI to provide more accurate and context-aware responses.

Advanced Spreadsheet Assistance in Google Sheets

Google also highlighted major improvements in Gemini’s spreadsheet capabilities.

Gemini can now generate and edit entire spreadsheets through natural-language prompts—helping users organize data, perform analysis, or build charts without writing formulas manually.

In benchmark testing, Gemini in Sheets achieved 70.48% success on the SpreadsheetBench dataset, which evaluates an AI’s ability to manipulate complex real-world spreadsheets—bringing it close to the performance of human spreadsheet experts.

These upgrades could significantly reduce the time required for tasks like budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting.

Smarter Presentation Creation in Google Slides

Gemini is also gaining stronger support for presentation design in Google Slides.

Users can ask the AI to generate slide decks based on project goals or documents stored in Drive. Gemini can suggest slide structures, create text summaries, and help refine messaging to produce more polished presentations.

This feature is aimed at helping professionals move quickly from raw ideas to presentation-ready content.

AI Assistance Inside Google Drive

Google Drive is also receiving new Gemini capabilities designed to help users navigate and understand large collections of files.

With Gemini in Drive, users can ask questions about documents stored in their workspace, summarize folders, or find relevant information across multiple files without opening them individually.

This effectively turns Drive into an AI-searchable knowledge base for teams.

Part of Google’s Broader AI Strategy

The Workspace updates reflect Google’s broader push to embed Gemini AI into everyday productivity tools. By integrating AI directly into widely used applications like Docs and Sheets, the company aims to make generative AI a natural part of daily work rather than a separate tool.

The company says these improvements are designed to make Gemini more personal, collaborative, and capable, enabling users to complete complex tasks faster and with fewer manual steps.
