Microsoft Announces Retirement of Microsoft Graph Toolkit
Microsoft Graph Toolkit

Microsoft has officially announced the retirement of the Microsoft Graph Toolkit (MGT). The deprecation phase will begin on September 1, 2025, with full retirement scheduled for August 28, 2026.

Why It’s Being Retired

The Graph Toolkit was originally introduced to simplify building web applications that connect to Microsoft Graph, offering reusable web components and helpers for authentication and data binding. However, its limited ecosystem and overlap with more powerful alternatives have led to declining adoption. Developers have increasingly moved toward modern frameworks and SDKs that provide more flexibility, deeper integration, and stronger community support.

Retirement Timeline & Support

  • September 1, 2025: Deprecation period begins.

  • August 28, 2026: Full retirement.

During the deprecation phase:

  • No new features will be added.

  • Only critical security and accessibility issues will be fixed.

  • The toolkit will remain open source but will not receive active maintenance or support.

Transition Guidance

There is no direct replacement for all MGT components, but Microsoft recommends:

  • UI development: Use Fluent UI Web Components or build directly with Microsoft Graph SDKs.

  • Authentication and data access: Use the Microsoft Graph SDKs for your preferred language.

Looking Ahead

Microsoft thanked the community for supporting and contributing to the toolkit. The focus now shifts to improving SDKs and modern developer tools for Microsoft Graph. Developers are encouraged to explore the latest SDKs and continue sharing feedback as the platform evolves.
