October 7, 2025 — Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has announced an agreement to acquire Arduino, the world’s leading open-source hardware and software company. The move strengthens Qualcomm’s strategy to empower developers and accelerate innovation at the edge.
This acquisition follows Qualcomm’s recent integrations of Edge Impulse and Foundries.io, marking another major step toward building a complete edge-to-cloud development stack. The deal is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions.
Bringing Power and Simplicity Together
By combining Qualcomm’s advanced AI, graphics, and processing technologies with Arduino’s simplicity, affordability, and massive developer community, the companies aim to redefine what’s possible for creators and engineers. Arduino will keep its independent brand and open-source spirit while gaining access to Qualcomm’s hardware, software, and cloud resources.
The Arduino ecosystem—home to over 33 million active users—will soon benefit from Qualcomm’s high-performance technology stack and global reach. From hobbyists to enterprises, developers will be able to prototype, test, and commercialize AI-powered solutions faster than ever before.
Meet the Arduino UNO Q
At the heart of this new chapter is the Arduino UNO Q, a next-generation single board computer built around the Qualcomm Dragonwing™ QRB2210 processor. Featuring a dual-brain architecture—a Linux-capable microprocessor and a real-time microcontroller—the UNO Q bridges high-performance AI computing with real-time control.
This hybrid design enables projects that react intelligently to their surroundings, from smart home devices to industrial automation systems. UNO Q also maintains full compatibility with the Arduino IDE and the classic UNO ecosystem.
Introducing Arduino App Lab
UNO Q is the first board to support Arduino App Lab, a new open-source IDE unifying development across Real-Time OS, Linux, Python, and AI. App Lab seamlessly integrates with Edge Impulse, letting developers build and optimize AI models for computer vision, audio recognition, and anomaly detection—right from real-world data.
Leaders Speak Out
“With our acquisitions of Foundries.io, Edge Impulse, and now Arduino, we’re accelerating our vision to democratize AI and computing for the global developer community,” said Nakul Duggal, Group General Manager at Qualcomm Technologies. “Together, we’re enabling millions of developers to build intelligent solutions faster and more efficiently.”
“Joining forces with Qualcomm allows us to supercharge our mission of accessibility and innovation,” said Fabio Violante, CEO of Arduino. “UNO Q is just the beginning—we’re opening AI development to everyone.”
Massimo Banzi, Arduino Co-founder, added: “By joining Qualcomm Technologies, we can deliver cutting-edge AI tools while staying true to what has always defined Arduino: simplicity, affordability, and community.”
