Spotify has rolled out a new feature called Messages, giving users a dedicated space to share songs, podcasts, and audiobooks directly within the app. Starting this week, the feature will be available to Free and Premium users aged 16 and older in select regions on mobile devices.
Why It Matters
Sharing recommendations has always been central to Spotify. Millions of users already exchange favorite tracks and shows every month through external platforms. With Messages, Spotify brings that activity into the app itself, streamlining how users connect and helping artists, authors, and creators gain more exposure through word-of-mouth discovery.

Key Features of Messages
One-on-one conversations: Share Spotify content, respond with text, and react with emojis.
Simple sharing flow: While listening in Now Playing View, tap the share icon, pick a friend, and send.
Smart suggestions: The app recommends people to message based on previous collaborations—like Jams, Blends, playlists, or shared Family/Duo plans.
Inbox access: All conversations live under your profile photo in the top-left corner of the app.
Spotify makes it clear that Messages is not replacing integrations with Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat, TikTok, and other platforms. Instead, it complements them by providing an in-app option for quick sharing and discussion.

Privacy and Safety First
Spotify emphasizes user control:
Accept or reject message requests.
Block unwanted users.
Opt out of Messages entirely via Settings.
Report inappropriate content directly in chat.
All conversations are encrypted in transit and at rest, and Spotify uses proactive detection systems alongside human moderation to handle unlawful or harmful content—ensuring a safe environment while maintaining privacy.
What’s Next
This release marks only the first phase. Spotify plans to refine and expand the Messages experience to more users worldwide in the coming months.
