Sep 16, 2025 – At its Made on YouTube event, YouTube unveiled a suite of AI-powered creative tools for Shorts, giving creators faster, smarter, and more playful ways to produce content directly from their phones. The update includes AI video generation, intelligent editing, and music remixing features, all powered by Google DeepMind models.
Veo 3 Fast: AI Video Generation with Sound
YouTube is rolling out Veo 3 Fast, a custom version of DeepMind’s Veo 3 model, designed for Shorts. Creators can generate 480p video clips with sound from text prompts, free to use, and available within the YouTube app. The tool is now live in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with more regions to come.
Smarter AI-Powered Shorts Features
Upcoming AI features for Shorts include:
Add Motion – Animate photos by applying movement from another video.
Stylize – Transform clips with artistic styles like pop art or origami.
Add Objects – Insert props, characters, or effects into scenes using text prompts.
Edit with AI: Automatic First Drafts
The new Edit with AI feature helps creators quickly turn raw footage into a polished draft. It intelligently selects highlights, adds transitions, music, and even a contextual voiceover in English or Hindi, letting creators focus on personalization.
Speech to Song: Dialogue into Soundtracks
YouTube is also introducing Speech to Song, powered by DeepMind’s Lyria 2, which converts dialogue from eligible videos into catchy songs. Creators can choose vibes like chill, danceable, or fun, while ensuring attribution to the original video.
Built with Responsibility
All AI-generated Shorts will include SynthID watermarks and content labels, making it clear when AI was used.
With these updates, YouTube is transforming Shorts into a next-generation creative playground, lowering barriers to entry and enabling new forms of storytelling powered by AI.
