Azure Community Images: A Comprehensive Overview

Introduction

Azure Community Images is a platform where Azure users can share their own images of virtual machines with other users. It is a marketplace where users can publish their virtual machine images and make them available to other users. This platform is designed to offer a more personalized experience for Azure users by providing a platform to share customized images. This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of Azure Community Images.

What are Azure Community Images?

Azure Community Images are pre-configured virtual machine images that users can share in the Azure Marketplace. These images can be customized with software and configurations that meet the user's requirements. These images can be created from scratch or using existing Azure Marketplace images.

Azure Community Images are not only created by individuals but also by organizations that specialize in specific software or solutions. These organizations make their images available on the platform, and other users can benefit from these pre-configured images. This is especially beneficial for users who do not have the technical skills to create their own images.

How do Azure Community Images work?

Azure Community Images are available in the Azure Marketplace. To access the images, users can search for them in the Azure portal or browse through the images available in the Marketplace. Once the user finds the image they need, they can click on it to view more information about the image.

The information displayed includes the name of the image, the publisher, the number of reviews, and a description of the image. Users can also see the specifications of the image, such as the operating system, the amount of RAM, and the number of cores.

If the user decides to use the image, they can click on the "Create" button to create a new virtual machine using the image. The user can customize the virtual machine settings, such as the name of the machine, the region, and the virtual network. The user can also specify the username and password for the virtual machine.

Once the virtual machine is created, the user can log in to the machine and start using it. The virtual machine is pre-configured with the software and configurations specified in the image. This saves the user time and effort in installing and configuring the software.
