In the modern experience, as of writing this article, we have very limited options, so it would make more sense to check classic admin center also.
 
Settings available in the modern experience are more targeted towards the creation of a site collection. So, the question might arise -- why do we need to change them? We can always take care of it while creating a site collection. This is true only when you are creating a new site collection using SharePoint Admin Console. If you are creating a site collection from PowerShell, you/we might not add optional parameters to the command. In such cases, the default settings would be applied. Hence it is necessary to have these settings in place for governance purposes and the common default setting for each site collection. 
 
We can follow the below steps to change default settings of site creation options available in the modern experience.
 
Step 1
 
Go to the SharePoint Admin console.

Open Site Creation default settings.

Once you click on it, a sidebar window will open.

Change this setting and click "Save".
