Do you think we are getting dumber each day? I think so. Should we blame Microsoft and Google for it? Let’s debate about it. I would like to get your opinion about it.
I remember 10 years ago, writing a program or even a simple function was like solving a puzzle. I used to spend lot of time on paper and blackboard figuring out the solution and actually which solution is more feasible and optimized among many of them. After that I used to create flow charts and data-flow diagrams to understand the logic before I even think about putting in a code format.
Today, a regular programmer uses Google, types a question or a keyword, clicks few links, finds the code snippet, copy and paste it and bam. I’ve noticed many of us don’t even try to understand what the code snippet is doing. Is the code found the best solution for your problem? I asked few programmers what a psedo-code is, and they were looking at my face like I am speaking Hebrew.
Now in recent version of Visual Studio (2005), Microsoft has added code snippet feature, which allows programmers to simply type a keyword and code snippet is right there for you.
I understand finding reusable code gives us better productivity but what about our intelligence? What about our thought process? Should Google and Microsoft be held accountalbe for making us programmers less intelligent?
What do you think? Share below.

Correct Prabhakar. Programmers have tough deadlines so they don't even get time to revisit the code and clean it up. We just put the code, make sure its doing what it supposed to do and that's all. I think just revisiting the code, understanding it, and making sure the solution is optimal will improve the work.

Real Fact <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p> Mahesh its true. I am experiencing now, while at the beginning i used to code my self since i want to establish in my job but now I just understand the problem and my next step is to search in Google that too with Google suggest … <o:p> </o:p> Really I feel asham but think the other way about reducing the productive cost..That’s what my company needs. they don’t what to know weather I do cut paste or not.. <o:p> </o:p> Even though we do cut paste we should update our self to withstand in a position what we are now..

Hello, you are absolutely right. now a days programmers are getting richer by money bt getting poorer by knowledge.

We have the best solution when we fully understanding what is our problem. I have experienced once. Few months ago, my friend asked my about virtual keyboard. She had source code(not written by her) and asked me how to use? I looked for a while and told her: i will write new code using OOP in JS. I knew the problem and what i want to do, so it is quite easy to make a new understanable code.
