What is .NET Framework 3.0?

The Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 (formerly WinFX), is the successor of .NET Framework 2.0 and new managed code programming model for Windows. It will be used to write Windows Vista ready managed applications.

It's a superset of .NET 2.0. That means it supports all .NET 2.0 functionality including Windows Forms and ASP.NET 2.0. Besides that, it has following new technologies -

  1. Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)
  2. Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)
  3. Windows Workflow Foundation (WF)
  4. Windows CardSpace (WCS, formerly “InfoCard”).
