Custom control not aligning with label

Question

Hi All

I'm just trying to create my first custom control. It consists of three combo boxes that enables the user to select their date of birth. I have created the control and it works, however when I use it in a form the control is unable to align itself correctly with a label I put next to it. It seems to snap into place, but where it snaps is misaligned. Is it possible to turn the "snap to grid" property off? Does anyone have any ideas or solutions to how I could solve this problem?
