DataGridView - Freeze Column and Row

Question

Hi,

I have a column that shows the rank from 1-500 and another column that shows the sales for month of Jan. How can I go about freezing the rank column so that when the user click on the Jan header , the data is sorted accordingly but the rank number remain the same ? And how can i go about doing it when I click on the Jan header, the Total row stays at the same place as well? Usually when the jan header is clicked, the Total will be part of the sort as well.

eg

Rank           Jan Sales
1                   $400
2                   $500
3                   $300
Total             $1200

Once a Jan Sales is clicked, it will be

Rank           Jan Sales
1                   $500
2                   $400
3                   $300
Total             $1200

Ok, when I read this post, I thought it would be an easy thing to do, but then it turned out, it wasn't as straight forward as I initially thought. Well, you know how it is, once you start something, you have that URGE to figure it out. Well, long story short, I came up with a crazy way of doing it. It's not pretty (not at all) but it works. Basically, the logic is as follows: Maintain an arraylist of values of all the cells in the column you want frozen in place. Right after you set the datasource, before the user even has a chance to mess with it, you populate this list. Then, when the sorted event gets fired you repopulate the values in the frozen column from this list. Here's some code: First we have this: ArrayList cells; int frozenColumIndex = 0; Make these class level variables so you can access them all over. Then right after you set the datasource you do this: dataGridView1.DataSource = table; //freeze the column in place so it doesn't scroll dataGridView1.Columns[frozenColumIndex].Frozen = true; PopulateCellsList(); Here's the PopulateCellsList method: private void PopulateCellsList() { if (cells == null) { cells = new ArrayList(); } cells.Clear(); foreach (DataGridViewRow row in dataGridView1.Rows) { foreach (DataGridViewCell cell in row.Cells) { //get all the values in the cells in the column we want frozen if (cell.ColumnIndex == frozenColumIndex) { cells.Add(cell.Value); } } } } Then, in the Sorted event you repopulate the frozen columns from that list we had initially like so: private void dataGridView1_Sorted(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (cells != null) { int i = 0; foreach (object o in cells) { dataGridView1.Rows[i].Cells[frozenColumIndex].Value = o; i++; } } } Like I said, not pretty, but it works :)
